PAWS FOR THOUGHT.  ATTENTION DOG OWNERS AND WALK LEADERS.

As a result of an issue having been brought to the attention of the Committee with regard to Dogs on Walks.

It has been a club rule for a long time that dogs on Club Walks should at all times be kept on a lead, unless there are very exceptional circumstances. This is for the general benefit of all persons on the walk. Would all dog owners please adhere to this rule and not put a Walk Leader in a position where they have to ask the dog owner to place the dog on the lead.

When submitting walks for the programme or sending in walk descriptions can Walk Leaders please indicate that the walk is either dog friendly (DF)  or not (NDF). In the past this has been indicated on the site by an emoji of either a dog for DF or an emoji with a dog with X over it to indicate it is not. If possible this may be adopted again, but could dog owners please check for this or some written indication of whether the walk is DF or not.

If a Walk Leader has forgotten to indicate the choice on his description or it is not on the programme you can assume the walk is DF. If a walk is shown as not dog friendly please do not contact the Walk Leader to ask if you can take a dog, they have made their decision. The Walk Leaders say is final.

In general dogs are very welcome on walks but could all owners please refresh themselves of club rules with regard this matter. If there is anything that is unclear you can contact the Club Chairman for clarification on this matter.

Thank you for Your cooperation.

The Committee.

80TH ANNIVERSARY LITTER PICK WALKS.

As part of our 80th Anniversary Celebrations a member from the Wednesday group suggested we should do some Litter Picks. This is to show some commitment to the environment where we live and walk. It was thought that we should do one a month over the 12 months of our anniversary. The Committee thought this was a good idea and consequently the first Litter Pick will take place on Wednesday the 14th of January. As we are Carlisle Ramblers this will kick off in the Carlisle area, keep an eye on the website for details.
The success of this event depends very much on the participation of members. We need you to volunteer to lead one of these walks and get involved to help. It was felt that these walks would tend to be lower level walks in an area of your choice. You can do it as a dedicated litter pick or just pick up what you come across in the area you have chosen to walk that day. It does not have to be one of the Wednesday walks, it could be a Sunday or a Tuesday walk.
Gloves, Litter Pickers and Rubbish bags will be required. I think most of the equipment can be provided by members but there is the possibility of the Council providing these. If you contact me I can give you details. There is then the question of disposing of the rubbish collected. I would imagine that this would not be great quantities so once bagged we could manage that ourselves. Although there is a possibility the Council will do this.
Depending where you choose to walk the question of safety is uppermost. Any roadside walking is of particular concern. If you feel some sort of High Viz jacket is required, again get in touch. I think with good common sense all will be well.
The idea is that these walks will replace that days walk so I hope there will be plenty out to make it worthwhile. There is no reason why you can't still do a good walk whist picking up a few plastic bottles and some litter to show your love of where we live and walk.  Submit your walk to Ian as normal to go on the programme and walk descriptions to Sharron or Astrid. Get involved and thank you.

Climb Mount Snowdon with us!

After a group of us ventured up Ben Nevis earlier this year, we thought we would organise a trek up Mount Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in Wales, at 1085m (3,560 ft), it is the second highest peak in the UK.

We are planning to travel to Wales on Thursday 11th June 2026 and either camp or stay in B&B etc for a few nights. Accommodation and transport as previously to be individually arranged.

We plan to climb Mount Snowdon on Friday 12th June. Route will be finalised closer to time, depending on weather and walker abilities. The Pyg track could be a possibility, as it is the shortest trail, but steep in places, so a good challenge for our group. The Pyg track has the option to head over Crib Goch, which is for the more adventurous among us and involves more exposure, thrills and excitement!

If going up Pyg track we could descend via miners track to make route circular.

The Watkin path has also been mentioned as it is the quieter, off the beaten track route, with a bit of non-exposed scrambling. This route starts at other side of mountain however.

A few of us plan to do another walk nearby the next day (Saturday) and either return home that evening or stay one more night. Mount Tryfan is a possibility, or a smaller scenic walk.

We will arrange a Whatsapp group again and those who would like to be added, let me know.

Astrid.

I will include a link below to see the routes in more detail.
