Try us Out

You are welcome to try us out before becoming a member. Simply just arrive at the pickup point.

You will need boots, waterproof jacket, extra layer(s) of clothing, a packed lunch and water.

Car walks meet on the road outside the Sands Centre Car Park Carlisle CA1 1JE,

(OS map ref. NY402564)  (What3words: ///windy.script.ducks) at 9.00am on a Sunday and at 9.15am on a Wednesday.

For the car walks a cash contribution to the driver for the petrol will be needed, currently £8.

The monthly Sunday coach walks leave from the Sands at 9.00am. These times may vary slightly. The coach does have 2-3 extra pickup points. The price for the coach is £10 cash.

Exact details of the walks and the coach dates can be found under Forthcoming Walks. Note Grade 1 and 2 walks will usually involve climbs and can be up to 10 miles in length. Grade 3 walks have less climb and usually 6 to 8 miles in length. Grade 4 walks will usually be less than 6 miles and mostly flat. Grade 5 walks are completely flat shorter walks on good paths. See full details here

For your first walk with the Club, you should take care to select the grade of walk that suits your experience, ability and fitness.  If in doubt, select an easier walk; if you join a walk that is too much for you, you won't enjoy it and you may spoil the day for the rest of the party.  You can always go on a harder one at a later date once you are more familiar with what we do.

Dogs are not allowed on coaches but may be allowed on some car walks, click here for conditions.

After two walks you will need to become a club member.

"I am a new member to this group having recently moved back to Cumbria.

I used to be a frequent fell walker but had a serious illness and a four months spell in hospital seven years ago.

I then had a period of learning to walk again, swim, drive etc

Last Sunday was my first fell walk in eight years- and it was amazing! Pete and Joan (and Roger) were extremely supportive and kind and celebrated this milestone event with me .Thank you..  Mandy"

"It was a pleasure and what the club is all about, Pete"
