Carlisle Ramblers And Fellwalkers had a brilliant few days away in Wales. Twenty four of us went and all reached the summit of Snowdon, despite the high winds forecast and some rain on the travel out day.

Some of us had a visit to Llandudno on travel day, and some made it to the top of windy great Orme.

Lots of fun was had, Bruce had an encounter with a bacon stealing seagull!

Some of the ladies had a sophisticated Welsh cream tea.

We then made our way to Snowdonia, some camped, others stayed in hostels, caravans and B&bs.

We all had a lovely meal at The heights bunkhouse in Llanberis, highly recommended, service was fast and food was great.

 

We debated the weather and how we were going to tackle Snowdon.

In the end a few summited on the Friday and then visited Betws y coed the Saturday.

But the majority had a lovely sunny 13 mile lowish level walk, taking in Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, Dinorwig slate quarry and Dolbadarn castle in Llanberis on the Friday.

On the Saturday 18 of us summited Snowdon. Most via scenic Miners path and down Llanberis path. We took about 6.5 hours in total but that included waiting in a little queue at the top and browsing the shop on the summit.

A and B walkers all got to the top within a half hour of each other and had a group photo.

Sheltered weather most way up with scenery. Then blustery on top but nothing too bad. Clouds covered the summit but no one minded as we thought we wouldn’t get there. No rain on the walks!

Amazing few days away. It was hard work negotiating the weather, and organising people. But it all worked out brilliantly in the end.
