B Walk Loweswater

Leader: Ian Rowley

A baker's dozen turned you for this seven mile ramble, circuiting Loweswater. Although the weather closed in as the walk progressed we were always below the clouds and enjoyed fine views of the surrounding fells until they disappeared into the mists. Lunch was taken by the unnamed tarn tucked under black crag and then we made the steady climb contouring under Gavel and reaching the small bench that marks a superb viewpoint down the length  of Loweswater and Crummock water.

A steady descent brought us back to the cars with time for refreshments in Cockermouth. A great walk and we stayed dry all the way round.

Thanks to everyone who came along.

Wetheral

Leader: Judy Cherrie

Five of us boarded the 685 Brampton bus to The Queen’s. From there we met up with Tony & Catherine Fenton and Chris Fortune plus 6 of her newly formed Scalescaugh Strollers Group. A lovely day weather wise and companionship wise. We took a leisurely walk through fields, woodlands, golf course, a smidge of road walking, crossed the Newcastle railway track, more paths then back to the Queen’s Arms where we enjoyed a limited menu plus tea and coffee, which we took outside  to enjoy fairly warm sunshine given the  time of year.
Thanks one and all for a lovely day.   And thanks also to my official photographer Sharron.

Dumfries to Kingholme Quay

Leader: Sharron Murray

Photos: Sharron Murray & Judy Cherrie

We took the train to Dumfries, before walking towards the river to join the riverside walk to Kingholme Quay. We sat in the sunshine there to enjoy our lunch before walking back on a different path, crossing the river to walk by an historic mill. We didn't have time to go back into town for a brew so just returned to the train station for the ride back, and had a coffee when we got back to Carlisle

A walk

7.5 miles Grade 2

Mellbreak

Leader: Mark Graham and Jean Murray

Photos: Myna Biscocho & Mark Graham

21 of us set off by road for 1 mile to reach Scale Hill car park. From there we went to the foot of Mellbreak, where we skirted along the side for a short while. We then picked up the path that takes you to the 2 peaks of Mellbreak this path was a little tricky in parts so we went at a slow pace. We carried  on to the 1st peak then came back on ourselves where we took lunch between the 2 peaks. Then carried on to the 2nd peak. Then it was all down hill to reach Scale Force where we took a short break. Finished the walk going down to Buttermere for refreshments.  It was a nice sunny day with a slight breeze with fantastic views all day. Thanks to all who joined  us....Mark and Jean.

B Walk

 Low Lorton to Buttermere

Leader: Ian Rowley

Eight of us on the B walk today and what a fantastic day it was too!  We had an easy road walk through Thackthwaite before heading to Scalehill bridge and making the short steep climb onto Brackenthwaite Hows, our lunch spot, with  stunning views of Lorton Vale and  high fells on all sides.

There was still a fair distance to cover and another climb up Rannerdale to reach the col overlooking Buttermere and then steeply down to the lakeside for welcome refreshments.

A great day in great company. Thanks to all who came along

A pleasant stroll around the lake in mostly sunny weather. We stopped for an ice cream at the head of the lake as a treat. A lovely walk in pleasant company.
