B walk
Armboth Fell and High Tove from Watenlath

Another pretty grim forecast but it didn’t put off the members of the Club. Leaving the car park at Watendlath we quickly got up the steep pull overlooking the farm and tarn. We headed on to High Tove then down to Armboth Fell. Some bog to negotiate before getting onto the rock which signifies the summit. After a banana or cup of tea it was back to High Tove. The plan was to head for Blea Tarn but I felt there would be a lot more bog to tackle going that way. With the group in agreement we headed in the opposite direct toward High Seat on the great path provided by Fix the Fells. On the summit we sheltered from the wind whilst having lunch. There were still some great views all around so it wasn’t a wasted journey. Having gone that way we had no choice but to retrace our steps yet again to High Tove or do a very long walk which was never in today's plan. It was then pretty much back the way we went up. Windy and a bit boggy at times but very atmospheric and no rain. As we headed down the stone path back to the farm, the sun even came out. Weatherman got it wrong again, well at least where we were and if nothing else everyone should know where High Tove is now. Thank you very much for coming out.
As a side to the report we went to Base Camp for after walk Coffee. It was unusually empty. It has always been a good stop for after a walk but the service was very bad, Coffees were sent back as they were cold and that was after a very long wait. Over charged and one of the staff was a little disinterested. Maybe it was just a bad day but something to consider in future if there are other options.

Stonybeck to Penrith

With most of us meeting at the bus station we caught the 9.37 bus to Stonybeck and joined the car drivers to begin the walk. It was intermittent showers as we walked up through Bowscar then on to Forest hill but quite warm. After leaving the farm, we skirted around the quarry then on into the wood, which was a real treat, taking us almost down onto the road and our route to Inglewood Bank. Going through the estate it was easy to tell it was starting to look tired and very empty of life. Onward up the track there was a threatening very heavy sky, so lunch was taken early, so out with the Custard Creams. Lunch over, it was over fields and on to first Maiden Hill, then Greengill Farms. Now back on tarmac, we headed towards the golf course before making a decision to drop down to town by Beacon Edge road as the rain and time were against us. Once we were heading downhill we made good time and soon at the Daffodil café and calories galore. In plenty of time for the 15:03 bus back home, we walked the short hop to the station. All car drivers got off at Stonybeck and the rest of us were homeward bound.
Many thanks to everyone and Barbara who joined us for the walk.... until the next time

Rockcliffe to Etterby

Who would have believed, looking at the forecast, the super day we had for walking today. Eight of us caught the bus to Rockcliffe where a smattering of rain just before we arrived had us all putting on our coats when we left the bus. Luckily, by the time we had walked to the church it had stopped and we didn't see another drop. It was beautiful strolling through the water meadows and we stopped for lunch on a sandy beach where we watched the birds across the river. We met a man, Andy, who was on a 330 mile walk for charity, some of us made a donation there and then. If anyone would like to donate to worthy cause, I will add the QR code to the photos. Two members left us at Cargo, the three mile mark, to take the bus back, while the rest of us continued on to Etterby. By that time we had stripped down as the sun had come out and the wet grass in the hayfields helped cool us down a bit. I was very glad to see the bus stop on Kingmoor Road, but three hardy souls decided they would prefer to walk the extra mile and a half to town. I hope they made it. The three of us that were left were spotted by Joyce Beatty's daughter, who kindly picked us up in her taxi, and delivered us to the bus station. What a lucky day!
