A lovely stroll along the river from The Swifts, where we saw plenty of sand martins swooping and swirling above us, over the footbridge into Rickerby Park where we stopped for a break before passing a herd of cows asleep on the path who were so chilled they didn't bother to move! Thank you to those who joined me.

A Walk
Great Shunner Fell

A great day enjoyed by forty or so walkers centred on Hawes in Wesleydale.
The A’s had a fairly long ramble, climbing to the top of Great Shunner Fell and enjoying a breezy, sunny lunch at the summit, followed by a steady descent along the Pennine Way into Hawes. The B’s and C’s followed similar routes to Hardraw with the B’s taking a higher level route over Pike Hill with good views of the famous three peaks.
Sharron led the C’s along quiet lanes and field paths before delving into the wooded valley of Shaw Gyll Wood with both groups coming together at Hardraw and returning to Hawes along the Pennine Way.
Everyone appreciated the meal at the excellent Wensleydale Pantry afterwards .
Aldo a special mention to Tracy the coach driver for negotiating a tricky situation with some poorly parked cars.
Another great Coach Rambke to add to the memory bank. Thanks to all the walk leaders and everyone who came along.
B Walk
Hawes Circular and Sedbusk

Sixteen of us set off from the Hawes visitor centre on the circular B walk. The weather was cool and breezy as we began the walk and we encountered a couple of heavy showers after we passed through the hamlet of Sedbusk and made our way up North Rakes hill. However, we soon dried off and made our way along a track to reach our lunch stop by the cairns on top of High Clint. We were rewarded with lovely views overlooking Hawes with Ingleborough and Whernside in the far distance. Following lunch we headed down the track, joining the road for a short distance and walked down through fields until we reached the wooded riverbank. A few tricky stiles were encountered at this stage of the walk before we entered Shaw Gill Wood. The final part of the walk was in lovely sunshine through fields back into Hawes where we all enjoyed our well earned meal at the Wensleydale Pantry. Thanks to Ken for back marking and to all who joined the walk. A most enjoyable day in good company.
C Walk

Seven members set off for this lovely little walk around Hawes. We started off with a little drizzle, sat down in sunshine to enjoy the views while we ate before getting soaked in a deluge a mischievous god sent as soon as we got settled. As we walked along through the fields, the same one sent a brisk wind to dry us off! After this we saw little rain and basked in the sunshine as we sat outside the Green Dragon for a well earned drink, before we tackled the last mile and a half to back to Hawes. We had time to tidy up and a bit of shopping before having our tea at the Wensleydale Pantry, which we all enjoyed. Many thanks to the organisers for this years summer ramble. Sharron

After meeting up at the bus station in Carlisle we joined the car travellers in Penrith then all 20 of us headed for the footpath across the railway bridge. From here it was over several fields and stone walls before we were at the edge of Stainton. After a discussion about the temperature and distance we voted for a quality day and not quantity. Taking the path out of Stainton we stopped for lunch beside the River Eamont and it was so enjoyable that we lost track of time meaning shortening the route to get back to the coffee house on time. What a cracking day and many thanks to everyone for going along with the many changes to the intended day..... Thanks again to Ken for back marking and on till the next walk... Dave

A walk
Raven Crag and Birketts circuit

A walk today, almost 8 miles. The Benn, Castle Crag fort, Raven Crag and Armboth Fell.
Ten people completed today’s walk in beautiful weather. Hot in the sun but lots of cool shaded sections through woodland. The walk was steep in places but very manageable. Gorgeous clear views over Thirlmere, the Helvellyn range and Watendlath area.
We had a banana break on top of the Castle Crag Fort (a Birkett), with views over the forest. We made it up Raven Crag in good time and enjoyed the views, then decided to continue on to Armboth Fell to have our lunch. A few of us popped over to Armboth’s true Wainwright top, taking advantage of much less bogginess than is usual around there.
We then descended towards Thirlmere via a lovely woodland path that was steep in places but zigzagged. Once at Armboth car park we took a more overgrown woodland path alongside Thirlmere’s stony beach shores. It was a bit like 'Day of the Triffids' Eventually emerging from the jungle we followed the road a short way back to the cars.
Refreshments were taken at the Kings Head pub.

B Walk

A good group meeting at Longlands with some unforeseen parking issues at the start. This normally quiet little spot was busy but we eventually all got parked. A perfect walking day, not too hot with a nice breeze. We were all soon on the first Wainwright of Longlands Fell where we had a short rest. A nice easy walk up the valley before turning off for Brae Fell and a banana break at the summit.
It was then to the highest point of the day, Great Sca Fell, at about 2100ft with some great views all around. A steep but short drop down to Meal Fell where a long lunch in the sunshine was taken, completing our 4th summit of the day. It was then down all the way back to the cars at Longlands. We didn’t rush but were back in double quick time. If I had known you were such a bunch of athletes I would have put another top in. The upside was we had loads of time to visit Mae’s Cafe and enjoy the ice cream. Well done to all and thanks for coming.

Eskrigg Reserve, Lockerbie

A lovely day walking in the reserve. Nine members took the train from Carlisle and another two met us at Lockerbie. There was a coolish breeze that took the sting out of the heat. The wild flowers were in full bloom, and the walk in the woods was picturesque. The birds were out in force and we saw many different species, including a buzzard that we could hear mewing long before it took to the air from the woods.

A warm day today for twenty Wednesday walkers taking the disused railway line from Threlkeld and then the old road to St. Johns in the Vale church via Tewitt Tarn.
There was welcome shade in the churchyard for lunch (with ice cream!) But no shade for the return leg of the walk so we opted for a shorter route back to the cars.

Grike to Caw Fell

Unfortunately the weather forecast proved to be accurate and our views were rather monotonous, just a grey hue! However 9 of us summited Grike, Crag Fell and Caw Fell in good spirits. At the end of a long descent from Caw Fell there was rather more water in the stream than anticipated resulting in wet feet all round! We still added the small detour to Monks Bridge but were grateful that we had left 2 cars at the end of the track.

Tesco to Warwick on Eden Litter Pick

With part of the group meeting at the bus station and the other at Henry Lonsdale care home we began the pick along the route. When we reached the Golf club we had several full bags but fortunately the groundsmen who were working at the entrance were only too happy to take them off our hands. This allowed us to travel light towards our lunch break and the finish off our pick just outside Warwick on Eden at the fork in the road. With lunch finished there was time enough for a short walk past Moorhouse Hall then over the golf course and on towards Scotby. From the road end we caught the 685 bus back to Carlisle then hopped across town to Tullie Cafe for refreshments.
