Bus/car walk Warwick Bridge - Great Corby - Heads Nook - Warwick Bridge
7 miles. Grade 3/4
Leader: Elizabeth Allnutt
Eat your heart out Derbyshire! Those of us not on the club holiday had a wonderful day! The sun shone in a cloudless sky, there were singing birds, bleating lambs, loads of butterflies and flowers everywhere. It was the perfect day for a gentle rambly amble (or should that be ambly ramble?) with a quiet walk through woods and fields round some local villages; Warwick Bridge, Great Corby, Broadwath and Heads Nook. Lunch was leisurely on the village green at Heads Nook. Tea at Sally's in Warwick Bridge. Thanks to Ken for backmarking and to everyone else for their excellent company.
Elizabeth.

Branstree, Tarn Crag and Grey Crag
Leader: Ann McIntosh
Photos: Astrid Carss & Ann McIntosh
Ten of us set off, but there were only six of us at the end! Sack me if you want! Those of us in shorts thought we were under dressed when a rain shower and cold wind hit us. However it soon faired up and we peeled the layers off. The soft ground only caught one foot, the rest of us escaped. Walk as described was completed in good humour. Thanks to all who came along.

Keswick circular
Leader: Sharron Murray
Photos: Christine Wood, Cynthia Sherdley & Sharron Murray
Whilst some of our members were off being scrubbed and buffed up, seven others were taking the train to Keswick for a short walk to Cockshot Woods. We had a glorious day for the walk with clear skies and long views. We stopped as much as we walked and had a couple of short breaks on a handy bench before having a cuppa at Hope Café. Leaving there, a few of us wandered off to the chip shop for a bag of chips. We managed to miss two buses home even though they are only every thirty minutes as our stroll through the town to the bus station was slow, chatty and fun.
Thank you all for coming. Until the next time, Sharron.

Pamper Day at Carlisle College
Phots: Astrid Carss & Carol Telford
A very enjoyable time was had by all judging by the comments to arrange this outing again!
Twenty ladies enjoyed a pamper day, provided by the staff and students of Carlisle College. This was as a thank you for our litter picking in the community. We had teas and coffees and then split into two groups. First group had to choose five of them to have pedicures and five to have Indian head massage. The second group had the choice of pedicure or hot stones massage. Both groups had hair cuts, or wash n blow dry and style.
All treatments were professionally done. Students were lovely.
We had a light lunch of soup and freshly made buns, sandwiches and salad.
At the end we gave tips/ donations and these were to be donated by the college to the North air Ambulance charity.
Thank you to Nikki (teacher hair and beauty), to the students and to Judy and Judith for organising.

Bus walk. Scotby to Warwick Bridge
Leader: David Elsworth
Distance: 8 miles, grade 3/4
At the bus station we gathered for the 685 bus and joined the rest of the group at Scotby. Walking through the village we took the Wetheral road before heading onto the footpath leading to Carlisle golf course. Crossing the greens with needed caution as it looked a busy day with balls everywhere. Through the wood and after crossing the road it was over several fields and into Warwick on Eden where we got back onto tarmac from the rear of the pub. We now dropped down the bank and through more fields before we made a decision to have an early lunch as the weather was threatening. By the time we got to Wetheral Station we needed waterproofs on but it only lasted until we were in Great Corby and heading for the crossing gate at Sandy Lane. Onto tarmac again and through Burnrigg we then turn and followed the footpath through the rear of Warwick Bridge. It's downhill from here as we head for the Mill and ready to demolish some calories. A treat was in store and it was yummy as we all fed our faces. I think I speak for everyone that at the drop of a hat we will be back. Many thanks you all and especially Elizabeth who was my back person....until the next time...Dave

Robinson, Hindsgarth and Dale Head
Leader: Astrid Carss
Photos: Astrid Carss & Pete Rutland
It rained at the start of the walk, but then stopped and stayed dry for the rest of day. We all kept our waterproofs on however, due to the high, chilly winds. The rock was wet on the scramble up Robinson, but everyone made it safely. We had a banana break halfway up Robinson and later found a lunch spot out of the wind, in the valley below Hindsgarth.
It was a tough walk, especially on the knees on the way down, the path has seen better days! But we were rewarded with gorgeous views over the Newlands Valley. The snow had all gone, leaving it definitely wet and boggy in places.
Welcome to two newcomers today. I hope you both join us again.

Newlands Church and Goldscope Mine
Leader: Ian Rowley
Photos: Mandy Gilpin, Martina and Barbara
Portinscale to Goldscope Mine and return via Newlands church about 9 miles.
Some sharp showers for the start of the walk but the weather gradually settled down and sixteen of us enjoyed a fine ramble in the stunning Newlands valley
A small number of brave souls venturing a short way into the mine and we also spied the Search and Rescue dogs training further up the valley. As always a great day in great company. The afternoon turned warm and sunny as we paused briefly at Newlands church before we headed back to Portinscale and refreshments at the chalet.

Litter Pick
Leader: Pete Rutland
It was unfortunate the walk was cancelled as the forecast changed so rapidly we could have walked; but it is better to be safe than sorry. However a limited litter pick went ahead and fourteen bags were filled in the short time we were there. Not a bad result. Thanks to the Sands Centre manager who allowed us to use his bins for the rubbish. The next litter pick will be on 27th May in Silloth. This will be a Wednesday walk. The June litter pick will be on 16th June and organised by the Tuesday walkers. Details to be announced soon. We hope you will be able to join us for one of these walks. Hopefully the litter pick in July will be a Sunday one to allow all our members to be involved.
Pictures below of before and after.

Eden River and Rutter Force from Appleby
Leader: Ian Rowley
Good turnout as usual for today’s walk, a little longer than advertised due to parking arrangements. The weather stayed fine and the riverside path along the Eden was mostly passable, (not always the case). Lunch was taken at Ormeside church and we made our way to the waterfall at Rutter force
It was there that disaster almost struck when I slipped on the edge of the ford and my phone disappeared with a splash into the river! After several minutes of desperate searching and very wet feet; thank you Dave for joining me in the river, one of the eagle-eyed members of the group spotted it. Despite having been fully submerged for a good five minutes, remarkably the phone was unharmed. That was enough drama for the day and we made our way back to Appleby
Thanks to all who came along and especially web-footed David and eagle-eyed Ian
