Twenty of us plus three dogs set out on a glorious winter morning. Bright sunshine and barely any wind. Our first short stop was at Jenkins Crag view point to take photos of Windermere. We took our banana break at Pillar. Then through Troutbeck to reach our first steep incline of the day going up Nanny Lane. We took lunch at the summit of Baystones where we had 360 degree views, unfortunately the clouds started to darken and a slight breeze sprang up. Then it was over the ridge to Wansfell before it was down hill all the way to reach our refreshments at the new force café.
Jean and I would like to thank everyone who joined us....Mark

Twenty-five of us (plus Snowy, of course - what an apt name!) set off on a glorious winter's morning up beautiful Eskdale, under blue skies. The snow-dusted hills surrounding us were the icing on the cake. We had a short banana break (too cold to linger) before visiting the historic Staplegordon graveyard, passing a shepherd and his disobedient collie en route (not candidates for One Man and his Dog, I fear!).
A short lunch stop fortified us for the drop down to town past a group of fairly uninterested cattle. Crossing the Millennium Bridge over the Esk we passed the remains of Langholm Castle before repairing to First Bite by way of the Kiln Green.
Many thanks to you all for coming, with special thanks to all who helped, especially to Nancy for her historical expertise and invaluable assistance at the end of the walk. Thank you, Anne, for planning such a great walk (no stiles!) and to First Bite for coping with such an influx of hungry bodies!
Haste ye Back!
Ken

Three hardy souls set off from Carlisle in the rain and were met by another at Wetheral. The day did not fulfill the promised snow, sleet and rain and instead we were treated to a dry walk, not too muddy underfoot as we walked along the river, through the woods to our lunch break at Oak Tree Animal Sanctuary. After lunch it was all walked on minor roads and the sun graced us with its presence for a short while, A nice autumn walk. Thanks to my companions for the company.

Sometimes the weather gods smile 😃 and this day they certainly did especially considering the previous couple of weeks of poor conditions. 10 members fully appreciated the extensive views and glorious surroundings of The Langdales as a result. The walk was completed as described (but I have to admit that I didn't mention the few scrambley bits on the descent) . We took refreshments in the Travellers Rest on the return journey to end off the best day. Very many thanks to everyone.
David.

Coach walks
A Walk- Castle Crag, Dalehead and Honister

As per tradition it was raining on our Remembrance Day walk. Due to the weather and time constraints, we gave Castle Crag a miss and had our 2 mins silence in the valley on the way to the slate mine.
Eight of us made our way up following the river and waterfalls. Some fleeting views on the way. We had a river crossing that was a bit precarious with slippery rocks but luckily no one fell in. We found a sheltered little cave /slate mine entrance to have our lunch. The steps up to Dale Head seemed endless, the rain never let up and it was very windy at the top of Dale Head, but we all made it. There was a bit of slipping and sliding on the way down the muddy grassy slope. We had a second break at Honister, then it was just a few miles downhill from there to Glaramara hotel for hot/cold drinks and a warm up by the fire.
Thank you to the brave souls on my walk, shame we couldn’t see much of the good views but we all survived and completed the whole walk as planned!

Castle Crag, Rosthwaite and Seatoller
Leader: Ian Rowley
Good turnout today for the Remembrance Sunday Coach to Keswick and Borrowdale
Most of the B walkers attended the service on the Castle Crag and “enjoyed” a very soggy circuit of the valley visiting Millican Daltons cave and walking through a section of temperate rainforest en route for the Glaramara Hotel.

There were eight members on the 'C walk'. We started by attending the Remembrance Sunday service at the war memorial in Keswick, in the torrential rain, some of us found a porch for shelter but Janet stood proudly at the front wearing her service cap and medals. Then we set off through Fitz Park to Ormathwaite. We found a nice dryish barn there for lunch before we continued our exploration of the under Skiddaw villages. We dropped down from there for a very muddy, water logged trek along the river Derwent back to Keswick via Portinscale. We stopped for refreshments at Hope Café near to the Theatre in the Lake where the coach picked us up. Thank you to Graham for a nice, albeit long, walk.

A Walk
Causey Pike, Scar Crags & Outerside
Leader: Pete Rutland

Parking just outside Braithwaite, we headed into the village and via Briathwaite Lodge we took the path then road to Stair. A nice flat start to warm up. It was then a good pull up to Sleet Hause before the little scramble up to the summit of Causey Pike. There was a bit of a breeze and with the cloud it felt very mountainous. We quickly got onto Scar Crags and dropped down for a bit shelter for lunch.
A bit of drizzle came in but as usual, by the time waterproofs were put on it stopped. We then went down to High Moss and took the short pull up to Outerside. A bit wet under foot as we bowled along to High Stile, but then it is winter. Down to Barrow Door and back into the village via High Coledale. Some great views today and yet again we defeated the rain by keeping dry. We hit Jaspers Cafe in the village for tea and cake. All in all a splendid day and probably just about enough for a winter walk. Thanks to everyone who came out.
